The upgrade system in the game requires strategy because you get 1 upgrade point for your character at the end of each wave you complete. Some upgrades require 2 points and each trap and gun have there own damage upgrades as well. If you are looking to get a fun and casual zombie survival game thats wave based, i highly recommend it. the devs are also adding coop to the game in the future and im looking foward to future updates to the game.. At a really barebones level the game is fun but there's alot of improvements that could be made. The biggest problem I have with Blood Waves is the bizarre decision to use awkward survival horror shooting mechanics. This kind of third person, aim down sights combat, helped create tension and panic in old horror games, but in a fast paced arena\/horde game like this it\u2019s horrible. This game doesn\u2019t have a save state either so you can\u2019t quit out and continue that run at a later date. This would be bearable if the game was designed as a rogue like, with great variety in each run, but it isn\u2019t.I\u2019m not really sure those two things can be altered in early access as they\u2019d warrant changing the essential game mechanics, but the promised new maps will help a little with the later. I\u2019ve included more suggestions in my video but key rebinding is a must and a more animated main character would be nice.If you could fix all my main issues there might be something interesting and fun here, but as of now there is no reason to play this over something like Orcs Must Die or any number of Zombie games.. Good game with great potential. It would be nice to add co-op and more maps. I like PVE shooters, I have something close to 4,000 hours between Borderlands, Killing Floor and Payday games but this game is a disappointment. I don't expect the world from a relatively cheap indie game but what I do expect is good gameplay and it's lacking here.This game has two modes, Survival and Horde. Horde is completely worthless mode where you are given a certain amount of credits for weapons and defences and skill points for abilities, you can't earn anymore and you have to survive for as long as you can.Survival mode is a little better, you get credits for killing enemies and a skill point for every completed wave. The gameplay is fairly simplistic and would have been mildly enjoyable if it wasn't for the following flaws:Melee combat is completely worthless except in the first two waves.There are multiple noobtraps in this game, for example upgrading the melee weapon will simply waste points because zombies will kill a character that has fully maxed survivability in a second on wave 10+.Single shot weapons are severely underpowered even when upgraded. The starting weapon is particularly worthless.Shopping for items is unnecessarily arduous, you have to jog over to an area that opens during a wave recess. I don't understand why you can't shop with an interface where you stand.Enemies are extremely bulletspongy, even on earlier waves. It takes a mag of the SMG to kill just 3 regular zombies.Enemy HP and damage escalate very quickly so you can't strategise, things like number of bullets to headshot an enemy like you can in Killing Floor.There are no persistent unlocks, you die, you have to start from the very beginning boring waves with nothing to show for it.Another major issue with the game is that it feels like the devs want you to play a very specific way in terms of build and upgrade order. If you play it that way, you will get relatively far but if you deviate in any way, you will fail quickly. This makes every game feel very samey since the balance is so poor that more than half of weapons on display constitute an objectively bad choice and you are stuck with the same two or three guns every run.Overall, this game feels severely underbaked and the problem is that it is unlikely to get any better since the forums are very quiet and the last time devs responded to anything way in May.
